Netball has long been up there as one of Australia’s favourite sports. Our womens team has consistently ranked as the world’s best, eclipsing our competitors in various competition formats.
Not only this, it is also one of the country’s favourite pastimes, with mens, womens and mixed teams slogging it out on courts across Australia!
But why is it such a fabulous all-round sport? And what makes it the perfect mix of awesome athleticism and social fun?

1. It’s a fun social sport
Grab your netball ball and head down to the local club – this is a sport that ensures a bit of competitive or lighthearted fun. In fact, it can be as chilled or competitive as you like, being a great sport for fun social events.
This is why so many friendship groups and work teams get together and play it on different nights of the week – it’s a fun and healthy social event.
People absolutely love getting together on a weeknight to join their mates on the court, and always come away feeling a sense of healthy accomplishment, especially when you’re getting such a great workout out of the one match!

Well, most sports are great for our health, but this is one that really combines a range of skill and fitness attributes to ensure you are both playing at a top level and getting the most out of its physicality.

All you need is your netball ball and the goals and you can work on all the skills and fitness attributes that make this sport so healthy.
Conversely, in the winter, it is obviously best to join a local club and play indoors. Luckily, Australia loves the sport and has endless locations for joining a club and playing indoors in the chilly months of the year.
This, once again, makes it one of Australia’s most versatile sports, and a great way to maintain your general health and wellbeing even when the weather gets dark and gloomy!
4. You can take life skills from it
Netball is a fantastic team sport that will teach you a lot of life lessons if you play regularly. It is one where you have to work closely with your teammates across your defined positions to achieve a joint goal – putting the ball through the ring!
You can take these teamworks lessons with you to all kinds of life experiences, including work and relationships.
What’s more, sports like these teach you to be humble in victory and gracious in defeat, something which we all need at some stage of our lives.
